Malta
It has been a while since I posted the last review on this blog. Working behind the schedule become a natural way, unfortunatelly. Mainly, because my main work is even more demanding, than ever before and the exhaustion, that naturally comes from it, made me even more tired and definitelly less willing to travel. Yet, still I found for myself 3 free days, which I invested in my little escape out of reality. Quick relax on Malta seemed to be a good idea. I went to visit my good friend George from Malta to discuss another 2 projects, which we want to do this winter and maybe next year in summer.
Usually, I organize basic things in advance, like accomodation, location itself and naturally, even the bars and then I just simply follow my plan. This time I didn't check anything. I didn't have time for it. I came back from work at 22:30, decided to go to Malta, packed myself, booked the tickets and accomodation and in 4 hours I was back on the airport. Thank god, that I didn't prepare my bars in advance, because Malta is very beautiful, so instead of going to the bar on the first evening, I was just walking through the cities and on the coasts and enjoying street food, no stress, sea side architecture... simply said, I was a typical tourist. Then I became a very tired tourist as I made it from Tas - Sliema to Il - Belt Valletta by te coast and from there walking all the way back to Tas - Sliema through the cities and their narrow streets. I love Malta. The moment when I was standing on top (don't do it) of the castle walls, at the very corner of it, and I had the whole Marsamxett Harbour hundreds of meters underneath and the sunset on the horizon and I was there completely by myself, I really felt the freedom...
The next morning took me like 3 hours to convince myself, that I really need to go out again, because the day before I made around 30 kms. All walking. So I went from my hotel room to have a breakfast and while eating I found out few bars, that seemed to be worth visiting. However 1 of them was a normal mainstream ''touristic'' bar, the other was partially a restaurant and the next one was an Irish pub. Even if I have no doubts, that it could be a good place, it still feels wrong to fly 1500 kms to Malta, and end up eating or drinking in an Irish pub. The only place, that I found out and I decided to visit, is called Tower 22 in San Giljan. So I had a bar for the last day, however I am still missing one more bar for this evening. I will need to ask George, when we will meet...
I met George and we had a nice brunch, where he introduced me to Kinnie, which is a fizzy soft drink with various herbs, anise and ginseng, but mainly bitter oranges. George says, that there are only 2 opinions on this drink. Or You love it, or You hate it. I belong to the first category. It's like a fruity, not sweet coke, with anise tones and bitterness at the end of each sip, that makes me to drink it more and more. Then George had to leave, because he was working, but before I asked him for a tip, where to go. If he knows a special place for cocktails. He didn't hestite at all and immediatelly answered : ,,Thirsty Barber, You gonna love it.'' And that's where we are going next.
