Jonathan's Angels, Rome

Jonathan's Angels
After all the search, I had to do to be here, I was really hoping to be good. My first impression was pleased. The desing of this bar is stunning. It is a combination of a historical building and a cool atmoshpere made by great rock music (songs from my most favourite comedy ´´The Snatch´´) and a cool looking paintings.. simply everywhere. To that, You've got nice, stylish furniture and quite good looking bar display. Downstairs, there is one more, small room and a toilets. Everything is made in one continous desing and your overal impression is : ,,Coooooool!´´

Then I sat down on the bar, I started to chat with the bartender and I looked to the menu. At that point I've got a little suspicious, because the personell didn't have any dresscode. That means a lot actually, because then I know what can I expect from the service itself, so after I found ´´Brandy Crusta´´ on the menu, I didn't get excited too much.  I ordered it anyway, because I was curious. It is not very common to find this cocktail created by Jerry Thomas on a menu and it is much more rare to get it ´´in a good shape.´´ The second part is proven even here. I got this drink in a long tumbler glass, and the ´´crusta´´ was a layer of sugar as long as ½ of the lenght of that glass. Originally, it was a short cocktail, so here they make it longer, by adding ice qubes. The result is… very watery cocktail and You will get an impression, that ´´something is missing in there.´´

So I was sipping this long drink and I was talking with my bartender. I arrived there very late, so there were only another few poeple except of me and our conversation broke that awkward silence, when the songs were changing.

I could see, that the bartender is interested in bartending itself, however he still needs to learn a lot, since that Brandy Crusta was worthless and then the ´´Cuba Libre on the house´´ he made for me, was served with a lemon instead of a lime. Small detail You may admit. But if You have ´´X´´ amount of bartending courses and a ´´masterclass course of bartending´´  ( as he said, that he has ), You should know, that behind one small slice of a lime (NOT LEMON), there is a big piece of history…

But after all, i would rate this bar as ´´recommendable´´ for normal common guests. AT LEAST they know that Brandy Crusta exists, here. However if You are a true fan of bartending, I would give this bar only a ´´considerable.´´ Shortly said : Slightly better, than average bar. Pitty. Desing and atmosphere is taken down a bit by people.
