Café Del Mar, Ibiza

Café Del Mar

Café Del Mar is the first place You may see, if You will come to the coast from the right side. Basically it's a huge building (with the shop from the other side) with one round bar, DJ table and a terrace, which contains another round cocktail bar, just few steps lower. Instead of a proper roof You have white silken clothes, which are moving in the wind, and allowing this wind to move freely around You, which is great in very hot sunny day, which You will have on Ibiza for 98%.

Unfortunately the last good thing about this bar is the music. I guess that it's not even necessary to introduce You this kind of chill-out music. Their music mixes are well known all around the world.

But if You want to watch the sunset from here, DO NOT sit on the bar and DO take a beer. As usually, I was sitting on a bar, chatting with my friend and waiting for the bartender – in our case barmaid. Meanwhile, there were some people just passing inside the actual round bar, chatting with the barmaid, taking some stuff and leaving, without even greeting us, or even noticing that this girl has some guests. Unfortunately we realized, that these people were waiters, another bartender from the bar on top and even a DJ, who came for water. Nobody greeted, said anything to us or even looked at us. It took me some time, before I realized, who were these people, because they don't have uniforms - they have just some T-Shirts saying ´´Café Del Mar´´ even with different colors from each other. The saddest thing was, that the same T-Shirt You could buy in the shop from the other side of this building. Then our Barmaid finally came to us, asking us our order. Jacek took mojito (their way with some special seasonal herbs) and I wanted Pina Colada to ´´stay in the rum.´´ But as usually, I asked about the recipe. First of all, the actual recipe surprised me, and 2nd of all, even the way in which she replied, was very surprising too…. Cit. : ,,Normally. It's a classic pina Colada made of : Malibu, sugar cane, rum, cream and pineapple juice.´´ (With the face expression like : Why the f*ck are you asking like that?!)

Changing the order for a beer would be as offensive as her answer, so I decided to stay in Pina Colada, still quite shocked. Then she made mojito, and just after that she started to prepare my cocktail. She took blender and added big shot of rum, small shot of malibu, 2 table spoons (!!!) of a sugar cane, the whipped cream in the can spray, which You can buy in a supermarket for making the ´´desserts´´ (!!!) and finished that with pineapple juice.
Blended, white, super sticky mix she garnished with a spoon of dried coconut and gave it to me. I guess, that You know very well my opinion for this white thing in my glass, already. Politely said : if it would be as good as it wasn't, it would be amazing.

Just to ensure myself for this rating, I asked Jacek if he likes his Mojito. He said, that the weird taste of the herbs and  a ridiculous amount of sugar makes it even more sweet, than the sunset.

It took us - of course - some time, before we finished our drinks and meanwhile we could withness some preparations of the other cocktails:
Cuba Libre was missing the lime, but Bloody Marry was with that lime served. Obviously, that girl behind the bar did not ´´rolled´´ that Bloody Mary, but she ´´moved´´ the boston shaker like five times back and forward in such speed, that I could shave myself 2x in between one move...

As I was – absolutely concerned – watching the work of this Barmaid, Jacek finished his mojito and we decided to get out of this place. So I tried to put my ´´Pina Colada´´ back on the bar, very, very, very carefully to not to spill it, because if You would spill THIS MIX, You would have to put a warning label in front of it : ´´Beware, road reconstruction ahead!´´

Then we decided to get back to Ibiza town.  On the way back I bought some coke, just to some something less sweet, than that Pina Colada.

I believe that Café Del Mar is a great place to relax with good music. Just to chill out. Switch off. The music is amazing, the chairs and sofas are very comfortable and the view is stunning. (I would enjoy it even more, if I would be there with some beautiful girl, but EVEN with Jacek it was good enough) . But here is my advice: Even if You like cocktails, especially if You like it as much as I do – take a beer. Corona. In the bottle.
